It must be Deja Vu

Rival network competitors NBC and ABC are at it again. Both have premiered new shows aimed at and featuring very successful high powered women living in Manhattan, Lipstick Jungle (NBC) and Cashmere Mafia (ABC). Although both are entertaining enough to get me to watch the program for the next 50 minutes, it's almost as if I know exactly what's coming... like I've seen this before.

Oh wait.... they're just like that Sex and the City show!!!

Are writers really this desperate for show concepts? Not only do both shows esssentially parallel SATC completely (let me clarify, Lipstick Jungle has only 3 not 4 main characters... apples and oranges here), they are both in bed and tied in to HBO's success story. Lipstick Jungle, just like Sex and the City, is based off a Candace Bushnell novel. Darren Star, former SATC Exectuive Producer, is now working for Cashmere Mafia.

Most will agree that Sex and the City was widly successful and broke tremendous ground in television. I for one was devastated when the show saw its finale in 2004. However, SATC's departure, did not leave room for multiple copycat series... this isn't Law and Order.

Instead, I'm looking forward to the original cast from the original series coming back together for the Spring premiere of the Sex and the City movie.
