The Koozie Konversation

I have a friend, who shall remain nameless (although for those who know her, will be able to figure out who this is quite quickly), who is a huge fan of the beer koozie. She is such a believer that she and her husband don't ever leave home without them. For my friend, the koozie doesn't just come in handy to keep your beer cold and your hands dry at a football game tailgate, it is a necessary element anytime she pops a cold one.
I have seen her pull out of her desinger purse, a koozie (usually branded with the name of a local steak spot or casino) on many dining occasions.

I brought this to her attention recently, stating that it surprises me she would use a koozie at a fine restaurant. Although practical, I argued that koozies don't exactly represent class or good taste, something she happens to be known for. In response, my friend said that by using a koozie she is actually "dressing up" her drink and accessorizing it. Furthermore, she is preventing table linens from getting rings on them, a portable coaster if you will.

Still, I can't quite justify the presence of a koozie during a wedding reception meal or dining at Katsuya, the two just don't mix.

So now, dear readers, I bring this discussion and disagreement between my friend and I, to you.

Post comments with your opinion on the koozie. ARE they appropriate wherever necessary? Or is there a time and place they should only be used (i.e. the backyard bbq)?

Perhaps this could be a new trend. I think that you are missing something, what is needed are designer Koozies. Perhaps designed by Coach and with crystals for dining out at classy restaurants. At weddings they could be made up in the brides colors with the couple's names on them.
