New Year, New Camera

Happy 2014 y’all! My day has been spent much like the rest of the country, recovering on the couch watching endless bowl games, dreading the thought of facing two whole work days before the real weekend.

It’s been an amazing Holiday season, one that I am not ready to see go. I think I’ll be holding on to my décor and sneaking one or two more holiday movies into the mix in the next couple days. But like many, I am also excited for the thought of a new year and new possibilities. Instead of resolution setting this year, I’m taking on my own Happiness Project, focusing on different aspects of life and relationships each month.

One of Matt’s gifts to me this year was an amazing camera. And though it has wifi upload (which I am still figuring out), and I can post pictures to Facebook (also still being figured out), I’m choosing to post some of them here, like the good old days of blogging... because that is where I found writing happiness and is part of my focus for the month.

To start with, some shots of our New Year’s crab boil and festivities, hosted by our friend’s Rohn and Ericka.

Delish (unless you're allergic to shellfish. Le sigh...)

Amazing handcrafted cocktails!

The feast!

Cover up!

To the new year!

Happy New Year!

Old School, 8: 365

I had a picture all set for today... an image of the living room, sparse from Christmas, being packed away and how this was inspring me to do a little redecorating. Perhaps this will be another post for another time.

Instead, a HUGE surprise was bestowed upon me. A once in a lifetime (er, well maybe once in a decade) gift was given: a jump drive of pictures from my friend Megan, who has been known to hoard collect pictures since her first digital camera in 2002.

From flattering to "I wish this never happened", the last ten years of our lives together is documented. Here is a small snipet of pics:

From pictures of my early 20s... (I can't believe I thought I was "fat" here)

To me taking pictures of others...

And other things...
To US Weekly style "They're Just like us. She stuffs her face with snacks!"

And road trips on new motorcycles

It took me a minute to realize we were not spelling "YMCA" but "FVHS"
Go Trappers!

My 30th birthday. Friends for forever and a day.

And finally, some couple-y pics. My fave

Though none of these, nor the 1000 some additional pictures were taken today, I am so excited to have received them and find places to print and share them.

Thanks Megan! A gift truly worth waiting for!

You Know What That Dog Would Say to You Guys If It Could Speak?!

(It would say "Ruff!")

First of all, if you haven't jumped on the Portlandia bandwagon, do so immediately. The show is freakin' hilarious and eerily accurate. Just take a look at the outfits in this clip!

Last Sunday as I sat down to watch the weekly episode, I was completely caught off guard with a very familiar face guest starring in one of the skits:

Kudos to Trailer alum Jaime Langton (ok, she's also EWU and Alpha Phi alumni too, but let's stick to the most important details here) for landing a spot as the waitress on this very hilarious show. Can't wait to see what other opportunities come across your path, and my TV!

Spokane Trip Numero Uno: Memorial Day weekend, SATC2, Kristin's wedding

With the rare occasion of having my personal laptop available to me and not tied up to the TV for streaming the World Cup, I'll take this opportunity to post a few pics from recent trips to Spokane.

A cocktail party at Twigs to celebrate the bride Kristen and the start of her wedding weekend

Jamie and Katie with Kristen and her sister Katie

From Twigs we caught the premier of SATC2. Since the concession stands did not offer martinis or cosmos, we decided to bring our own adult beverages to the movie.
Cheers!

Day 2 included the essential dinner at the Trailer's favorite restaurant Luna
Followed by some quality family fun at a Shock game, Spokane's arena football team.

Little Ruby decided halftime was the perfect time for some baby yoga and "freshening up."
I couldn't agree more RJ.

Wedding #1 of the Summer of Weddings: Congratulations Kristen and Chris!

We decided to sneak in our "congrats"                                                                       Katie and Kristen

Alpha Phi group pics

First Dance                                                                              Ever the aspiring wardrober

One of my favorite wedding moments: Instead of tossing the garter, the bride's grandfather auctioned it off. Jamie insisted Marty win, though at the time she had no idea what they were bidding on. Classic Johnsons!

Wrapping up with some awesome dance moves!

Clothing Swap

As the saying goes, "One man's unused clothes is another man's couture"... or something like that...

Last weekend my very dear friend, Lindsay, hosted a clothing swap at her home in Lebanon, OR. It was the perfect excuse to get out of town for a couple days and visit Lindsay and her family.

I had so much fun helping to stage her living room as a boutique and watching all her guests sort through the different sweaters and dresses. Each donated item seemed to have a story that was shared by the original owner to its new recipient. An added perk to the swap is all the space I now have in my closet, although some of that room has already been replaced by the "new" clothes I chose to bring home. A bright magenta blouse with shoulder pads was an especially prized acquisition.

Party goers wearing a few new pieces and surveying the denim and t-shirt table

Arms full of things to try on!

Lindsay let me merchandise some outfits for the "boutique"

Shoe and accessories wall. As Tim Gunn would say, "Use them wisely"

I wish I would have gotten a picture of Lindsay's oldest son, Lucas, who would peak out from his room from time to time and visit with everyone. He was so excited that everything at our "store" was free! (A price he and I can both afford ;)

Lindsay also happens to live near Tadmor, a camp we used to go to every spring break in middle school and high school. The weather was so amazing last weekend we decided we just had to go visit for old times sake and walk around.

It's sort of incredible how certain places somehow seem to freeze in time. Although the camp had seen some improvements and new buildings, to me, it looked just as it had 12 years ago. For just a moment, I wished I could go back to our weeks at camp where we were footloose and fancy free.

The cabin we were usually assigned to

View of a valley and some mountains... which I'm sure all have names... as you drive away from the camp.

Thanks for having me Lindsay. I had a wonderful time with you and the boys!
