An excerpt from an article in the NY Times Style Magazine, Spring 2008
"I was about 20 years old and determined to wear a red Valentino dress to my friend's debutant ball. I had seen when my mother wore Valentino couture she immediately became the center of attention. Without fail, a moment of silence would occur as she stepped in the room. I wanted to experience this intense feeling for myself. When I asked to borrow Mom's dress, she flatly refused, saying that red at a coming out party went against all codes of etiquette.
