Mutt and Jeff

I was never the type of kid to want to adopt all the stray neighborhood animals. It wasn't for lack of heart, but more the area we lived in only offered animals who already had homes, possums (or opossums... what's the difference?), and squirrels. Not a wide range of choice for a little girl. Luckily, we had three cats of our own to keep me occupied and there was the occasional bunny or hamster when I had the itch for some extra "responsibility"... it's a good thing hamsters don't live very long.

I've been in pet mode again lately. My house in New Mexico gets lonely and it would be nice to have a cuddly companion to hang out with. Unfortunately my travel schedule isn't conducive to keeping a plant alive, let alone a furry friend.

Needless to say, it should come as no surprise that I launched my own very local animal outreach program.

Meet Mutt and Jeff.

These two are the happy new inhabitants of the my parent's backyard (there are already three kitties living inside). And although they reside outdoors, I make sure they have just as many meals, love and attention as their in-home counter parts.

The ultimate strategy of my "outreach" is to relocate these scruffy yet lovable felines to a new home in a certain Austin, TX ;)
