All of these details are important to the trip, however my head (no pun intended) seems to only be thinking about the fabulous hat I will need! Since the infield will be crowded and isn't exactly where the posh wide brimmed hats reside, I've been leaning toward a smaller but higher variety. It seems that anything worth sporting is going to be pricey. My other alternative is to attempt to create a hat on my own... which may just be beyond the realms of my creative abilities.

This isn't for the Derby, I just loved the style. Maybe it will be my "traveling hat" to wear on the plane. (sidenote: I am SO not a smoker, but why do these last two pictures make it look so glamorous?)

I cannot wait to see what you come up with! And, for the record, creating a hat is totally within your realm of creativity! Are you kidding me? You know how to sew for god's sake!
p.s. Smoking looks glamorous in the last pic because the tip of the freaking cigarette is pink, causing it to match her nails, makeup and hat!
