One of the things I enjoy most about the Olympics (aside from the games, of course) is that it provides a snapshot of the culture and daily life of the host city. The Today show had a special feature this morning on Olympic fashion and local Vancouver designers. Those who know me well, know that sporting wear is not my particular forte, but this segment caught my eye. Parkas, snow hats, and boots are taking a more tailored form and local Canadian designers are leading the way for clothing that is both functional and fabulous.
Here are some of my favorites:

This would be a great coat for a breezy Seattle day. I love the unexpected mix of lime and army green. Design by Allison Wonderland.

Popular athletic wear company Lululemon has a great line called "Cheer Gear," featuring spectator friendly pieces... targeted to those of us who may not be destined for a gold medal. My faves highlight popular Canadian colloquialisms such as "Eh" "Sorry" and this beanie (or "toque").

What would a post on Olympic style be without a few team USA pieces? This year the athletes are sporting a more traditional look from Ralph Lauren.
These styles, inspired by the team uniform are quite patriotic and ski chic.

Happy watching and GO Dutch people!

Canada just loves that the 80's are making a reappearance in fashion because they never left them! LOL!
Allison Wonderland might be my favorite name of a designer ever!
What is old is new once again. The last photo of your blog is exactly what I wore in the mid to late '70's. I even had those boots (some people referred to them as waffle stompers- how rude). However, we wore 501's in our ensemble. There also was a company called Frostline that had kits to make your own down vests. I made a couple and added my own contrasting touch. Oh the memories. mom
p.s. Did you know Vera Wang designed Evan Lysacek's short program costume?
